The 2010 Games for Health Conference at the Hyatt Harborside Hotel in Boston, Massachusetts May 25 to 27th was spectacular! This was a huge hit this year for Exergame Fitness USA and our 3rd consecutive year attending the Games for Health summit and by far the biggest and best. The three-day conference offered over 55 sessions featuring 100 speakers covering a wide range of topics such as Exergaming, cognitive and emotional health, simulation and learning, virtual worlds and more.
Sessions include a discussion about dreams and video game play with Jayne Gackenbach of Grand MacEwan University; a panel about the effect games can have on global health such as flu epidemics; and a presentation by Yale School of Medicine’s Dr. Lynn Sullivan on a National Institute of Health-funded project for HIV Prevention in At-Risk Adolescents.
Sony senior researcher Richard Marks, Ph.D., delivered the conference keynote, “The Mind-Body Experience of Sony PlayStation Move: Relationships between Gaming, Play, Exercise and More” on Richard discussed the development of Sony’s new motion controller system, PlayStation® Move, with a focus on somatic gratification—when the body actually improves a game experience beyond what a mind-only experience can create.
The show started out with a great crowd the first night in the “Exergaming TENT. Many of the attendees after the first evening actually referred to the Exergaming display as “The Tent”, which we are hoping bleeds into next years conference in an even bigger way with more Exergaming products and manufactures attending and participating.
Exergame Fitness was the company who was representing some of the world’s top Exergaming products at the event including the GAMERCIZE FIFA SOCCER SYSTEM, iDANCE WIRELESS DANCE AND STEP SYSTEM, MAKOTO SPORTS ARENA, LIGHTSPACE PLAY WALL, The XAVIX DASH and the NEUROACTIVE BRAINBIKE! (see our YouTube video below for a tour of the Exergaming tent)
Ben Sawyer and Beth Bryant were a tremendous impact on the GFH conference making sure every vendor and participant was fully displayed and taken care of which goes above and beyond most of the events we have attended all year long. Their deep passion for technology and fitness made this years Games for Health a massive success which is growing year after year.
Next year we hope even more sponsors and manufactures come on board for the Games for Health Conference to help us take this powerful initiative to the next level. We can honestly say that this is one event we would NEVER miss because of the solid partnerships we make year after year, and when you want to see technology evolving, this is definitely the conference your company NEEDS to be at.
The media that attends Games for Health is truly interested in the initiatives we are all working towards, so all of the interviews we conducted at the conference were very focused which makes attending well worth it. This is a show we used consider partnership based instead of sales, but this year we have had more product quotes go out to attendees than most conventions and demonstrations we have done all year long so we hope to see many more organizations teaming up with GFH next year.
