After five years, Hemet Unified School District will once again open a Community Day School (ASPIRE) that will serve expelled and at risk youth in grades 7-12.. ASPIRE Community Day School is planning to offer a variety of opportunities to help their students including: smaller class sizes, a strong set of social and behavioral support interventions, and an exciting blended learning curriculum that will place an emphasis on developing 21st century skills in its students. One of those exciting 21st century opportunities in physical education are exergames – or fitness equipment that is combined with technology and games to create motivating and fun workouts from Exergame Fitness.
One of the realities of today’s world, and a proven reason for behavioral issues in classrooms is a lack of daily physical activity. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) “When children and adolescents participate in the recommended level of physical activity – at least 60 minutes daily – multiple health benefits accrue. Most youth, however, are not engaging in recommended levels of physical activity.” Exergame Fitness has a proven track record with schools and fitness centers across the country of engaging youth in physical activity because it meets the child where their interests are – in the virtual world – and gets them up and playing as well.
